Aphid midges

Aphid midges belong to a family of insects that include many species of plant-feeders, particularly gall-makers. Aphid midges are in the order Diptera (flies) and family Cecidomyiidae (gall midges).

Several species are predaceous on small insects and mites. These are very tiny, slender-legged, rather delicate insects. The larvae are tiny legless maggots. Adults and fully grown larvae are usually about 3 mm (1/8") in size.
