Sad News for Entomology
Professor Emeritus R. Keith Chapman passed
away peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at age 90.
Chip Chapman’s distinguished career in
Entomology at the University of Wisconsin spanned 42 years
prior to his retirement in 1987. His pioneering research in
leafhopper migration, insect transmission of plant pathogens,
and ecologically-based pest management continues to influence
agricultural decision making throughout the world.
Chip guided a remarkable 75 students to Graduate
degrees in Entomology while at the U of Wisconsin and has influenced
many others.
Together with his wife, Betty, Chip established
the R. K. and Betty Chapman Distinguished Graduate Fellowship
in Entomology which continues to enrich the strong legacy of
research in Vegetable Entomology which he forged in the Department. |
