Weekly mosquito trap counts:
Trap sites were chosen for specific research purposes and are not necessarily intended to monitor for mosquito activity for the entire Madison metropolitan area. The mosquito traps are run one night a week. Our lab and Madison/Dane County Public Health do not have the resources to place additional traps or run them more often. This site is intended to provide the public with our limited data concerning the general mosquito population in the area. We will try to have the mosquito counts updated within 2 days of collecting the traps.
Mosquito populations can differ drastically by locality based on a number of ecological and environmental conditions. Trap catches will be influenced by wind speed, temperature, humidity and precipitation.
