Biological control was well represented at the 50th meeting of the North Central Branch of
the Entomological Society of America, held March 26-29 in Lexington, Kentucky. The Program
Symposium on Assessing Natural Enemy Populations and Their Impacts provided detailed
information on quantifying parasite, predator and pathogen populations, as well as specific
possibilities for biological control programs in certain crops, including alfalfa, apples and corn. In
an Informal Conference entitled "Extension Biological Control Programming: Fostering Regional
Cooperation" speakers talked about specific extension programs in the North Central States
(including MBCN) with a focus on biological control, and participated in a discussion with the
audience on how to improve such programs. In addition to these symposia there were numerous
talks and posters on research in biological control.
