Biological control can be an important component of organic farming. Therefore, some of our readers might be interested in the ongoing issue of developing national standards for certification of organic produce. There have been two articles in The IPM Practitioner that addresses some of the proposed rule changes. In the February and April 1998 issues, managing editor William Quarles discusses several of the changes made to the National Organic Standards Board's recommendations. These were included in the USDA's Proposed Rule as published in the Federal Register last December. The public had until March 16 to provide comments on the Proposed Rule, which will be used to produce the Final Rule.
