Biological control was the topic of many of the presentations at the national meeting of the
Entomological Society of America, held in Dallas, Texas December 13-17. There were over 90
submitted ten-minute papers or display presentations related to biological control, as well as
many additional talks on various aspects of biological control by invited speakers in symposia
and formal conferences. The symposium on "Inundative Release of Pathogens, Parasitoids and
Predators Impacts and Constraints" provided a forum for discussing the past, present and future
of augmentative biological control. There was also a lively discussion amongst researchers,
extension personnel, and government agencies in the "Informal Conference on Augmentative
Biological Control: Improving the Impacts, Reducing the Constraints A Discussion of
Strategies."
Some of the information presented at these meetings will be included in upcoming issues of
MBCN, in either the commodity reports section or News, Events, and Reviews section.
