You can find a number of species of adult carpet beetles in spring at the windows of most homes. Carpet beetle larvae feed on animal hair, feathers, dead insects, pet food, wool, chocolate, nuts and grain based products. Finding a few is of no concern. If you find a number each day you have a hot spot- We have found a number of cases this spring associated with neglected grain based rodent poison packs. The best control is to find and dispose of the food source. Moe info at http://www.uwex.edu/ces/wihort/pests/CarpetBeetles.htm

Seeing bees digging holes in the ground is a common spring (April and May) – There are a number of species of SOLITARY BEES that are activity. These bees do not make a true nest but dig holes in the ground, collect pollen, and lay an egg. They are not aggressive, are often only active for a few days, and most of the time do not need control.

TERMITES normally have to be brought into an area in Wisconsin- Once there they can sustain themselves. . This infestation in Iowa Co came from landscape timbers that were used to shore up a wall. See http://www.entomology.wisc.edu/diaglab/labnotes/WItermite.pdf

Little gnats flying around the head that leave welts and trickles of blood. I have had a number of calls of BLACK FLIES causing problems . These insects breeding in rivers , streams and creeks. They are most active during May. Consider wearing a hat and place repellant around neck and hairline. The will not be active on windy days.
