Insect Highlights
Insect Highlights for the Week of April 29, 2005
![]() Wood Tick |
TICK SEASON It is tick season. A number of deer tick and wood tick samples have come into the lab. If you are going walking in the fields and forest, you should protect yourself by spraying pant legs with repellants and doing a tick check on you body when you come indoors. For more information see http://www.uwex.edu/ces/wihort/pests/DeerTicks.htm. |
![]() Ash Flower Gall |
ASH FLOWER GALL Last year we had a very active Ash flower gall problem on white ash. The woody galls from last season are still on the trees. We do not normally suggest treatment for this cosmetic problem if you did want to treat – now is the time. See http://www.uwex.edu/ces/wihort/gardenfacts/XHT1048.pdf for more information. |
![]() Tent Caterpillar |
TENT CATERPILLAR It is tent caterpillar time. The eggs are hatching as the leaves start to expand. It is much easier to crush or prune these out now before they get very large. See http://www.entomology.wisc.edu/diaglab/04hilite/04_13.html for more information. |
