Degree Requirements

Major Requirements

CALS has recently revised and streamlined their bachelor's of science degree requirements and effective Fall 2011 there will be a new curriculum available for Entomology students. Students who declared the Entomology major in Spring 2011 or earlier will be given the option of staying in their current degree program or switching into the new degree program (see below for the new degree requirements). Students with questions regarding the new versus old curriculum are encouraged to contact the Plant Pathology Student Services Coordinator, Sara Rodock and visit the CALS New Curriculum FAQ webpage. For more information on CALS and UW-Madison requirements please also visit the UW-Madison Undergraduate Catalog.

Entomology Requirements: Fall 2011

The Entomology major available with the Fall 2011 degree requirements is designed to give students a basic background in math and the sciences (calculus, statistics, biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, genetics) which then allows the students to focus 15 credits in Entomology.  This major will give students the same backgroud as more general science majors, but also allow student to focus their upper-level courses and participate in a smaller department.

For more information on the major please consult the following resources (all links below are PDF documents):

  • Entomology Curriculum Sheet: contains information about the general BS degree requirements in CALS and all of the courses needed to complete the Entomology major.
  • Entomology 4-Year Plan: a listing of the major and degree courses to help students plan when to take which courses.
  • Entomology Course Titles: since the above documents only include department name and course numbers we have compiled a list of the titles in this document.

Undergraduate Advising in Entomology

Most undergraduate students are assigned to the primary Entomology undergraduate advisor Dr. Dan Young or to the secondary advisor Dr. Walter Goodman.  However, since the vast majority of Entomology BS students do independent research during their undergraduate career, it is important to meet with other Entomology faculty members to learn about all of the research possibilities.

Undergraduates in Entomology are strongly urged to meet with their advisor before they enroll for the upcoming term

For more information about the Entomology BS or the department in general, please contact either of the undergraduate advisors, Dr. Dan Young or Dr. Walter Goodman, or the Student Services Coordinator, Sara Rodock (email or 608-262-9926).
